22 Months, 3 Weeks

Since our last post Baby CP made a trip back to NY to see his grandparents.  Baby CP's cousin, Junior, also made the trip.  These two are trouble makers.

NYC was cold that day
Baby CP was very well behaved on the plane both ways...videos helps with that a lot.  We tried out these special JLab sound limiting headphones so that he could hear the videos without bothering neighboring travelers.  It did not occur to him that he could run up and down the aisles.  Luckily there were no other kids on the plane doing that to give him the idea.

After being back a week or so, Baby CP caught another cold, though this one turned nasty.  After discussing with Grandma CP, I think it was roseola.  He's been so fussy and needy and had a super high fever for a few days.  He had a non itchy rash for a day and still continues to refuse food and drinks for most of the day.  He also demands to be held all day long and says "no" to almost everything.  Poor guy.  I hope it passes soon.

The cold wiped him out and he passed out while watching Thomas on the couch

Sometimes you can catch him saying "my" truck or "my book".  He can identify blue things.  He's not so good with other colors yet.  He picks or gnaws chocolate chips off of cookies.  Gross.

Exploring nature
It was pretty warm this weekend, so I broke out the water table for Baby CP to enjoy some outside time in the backyard.  It's not too often that SF gets warm enough to play with water outside.

40 Weeks Old

This post is 3 weeks old. It took me a while to upload the video below.

Baby CP is into sounds...sounds made by banging stuff around...like a pot cover on the kitchen floor or a wooden spoon on the pot cover or his hands slapping a box or table...he also likes to take my hands and bring them together so that they clap.  I am not sure why he hasn't tried to make his own hands clap together though.  Anyway, these sounds seem to bring him much joy.

Though I have not weighed or measured Baby CP in a while, he seems a little taller and heavier.  His big toe has managed to wear its way through his footie.

Baby CP has been a little fussy while eating.  I can't quite figure out why but oftentimes he does not enjoy eating from his spoon.  He likes feeding himself with particular foods like his puffs and other small pieces of food...and he prefers to suck his pouch fruit purees straight from the pouch and is willing to hold them by himself.

8 Months Old!

Baby is 8 months old (or 37 weeks old)!

This past week, Baby CP enjoyed some spinach in his oatmeal.  We think he's teething again because he acts a little crazy sometimes and wants to find things to chew on.  He might also be hungry or just generally curious and excited about food.  One night, I had some chinese broccoli sitting in a plate on the coffee table with dinner.  I turned around to talk to Mr. CP about something for about a minute and when I looked at Baby CP who was standing in front of me he had already shoved a piece of chinese broccoli into his mouth.  I thought it might be bitter for babies, but he didn't seem to mind.  The next day I gave him a lemon to play with while I was washing dishes and when I turned around he was using his little teeth to gnaw on the peel.  He had little bits of lemon zest on his bib...haha...he smelled lemony fresh all morning!

I bought the Boon highchair on Craigslist because I wanted a chair that is easy to clean.  This chair doesn't have all the folds and crevices so it's easy to wipe down. The food tray can be put in the dishwasher if that's your thing.  The chair is on the heavy side, but it has a couple really nice features.  The chair is very sturdy and rolls everywhere.  The nanny can take him from room to room in it and he likes being wheeled around.  The chair also has a pnuematic lift so you can adjust the height of the seat easily.

Yesterday, I returned home to find that Baby CP had caught a cold.  The poor guy had a runny snotty nose and had barely slept all day.  I was afraid that he would wake up every hour since his nasal passages were blocked, but I think he was just so exhausted and I had given him some baby tylenol to help.  He ended up sleeping from 10-5:30 and then another couple hours after that so it wasn't too bad.  I was hoping he would get some sleep so that he could recuperate faster.

This is a photo from a month and a half ago of Baby CP sitting in a shopping cart for the first time.  He loves going shopping...so many things to see!  Sometimes he twists himself all around so that he can see as the cart is being pushed forward but usually he is just really calm and content.

14 Weeks Old

This week, Baby CP has had a busy schedule.  He went to a BBQ at Aunt V's house.  He attended 2 mommy/baby yoga classes and a pilates lesson with mommy.  He slept through them all.  He took his first bus ride to attend his first playgroup with some older babies at Mini Burrito's house - he was very well-behaved, quietly watching all the other kids walking around and playing with toys.

Baby CP is rolling over quicker on both sides.  I no longer put him on his belly for tummy time as he is just rolling over onto it himself now.  It looks like he's trying to fnd a way to fall asleep on his belly sometimes too.  I freaked out a little when I woke up this morning and he was on his belly with his nose in the bed.  He was fine though and probably didn't appreciate my waking him up.

He is gaining more and more control of his hands everyday.  Yesterday, he used his hand to grab the edge of his changing mat (and his toes to grab the ledge of the moulding) to help himself rollover.  Today, he grabbed Sophie the Giraffe with both hands.
Why is he wearing that mitten on one hand you ask?  He has learned to scratch the eczema on his left cheek.  He has also figured out how to take that glove off with his right hand sometimes.

We did not weigh or measure Baby CP this week.

Rolling With His Homies

Here is a photo of Baby CP rolling into his seahorse buddy.  That little playpen thing is almost too small for him now.

The Swing Revisited

Apparently he liked it enough one day to doze off for a while...

A New Place to Play

I've been busy during the day over the past couple weeks working on a refinancing and helping my brother with the paperwork involved in buying a house.  It's difficult to leave Baby CP unattended while he's awake, because he gets lonely and fusses or I worry about what he's up to and I feel I should be talking to him.  I had a lot to do though and it required me to sit in front of the computer for a while, so I decided to put his play station into the little computer area so he wouldn't get lonely and so he could see what I'm doing.  He's still getting used to being in there, but it's the best arrangement I could come up with so far.

Tummy Time

Nowadays parents are advised to have their babies sleep exclusively on their backs to avoid death resulting from SIDS or suffocation.  As a result, babies need to be placed on their stomachs for "tummy time" so that they learn to pick up their heads and strengthen their neck muscles.  Baby CP is still young, so I only place him on his belly every few days and for a couple minutes at a time.
The blanket that Auntie S knit for Baby CP is perfect for this because it's so thick and soft.
Gathering his strength for a pushup
He manages to lift his head for a second and then is able to maneuver his head and hand to just where he wants them.
He's had enough!
If we can get Baby CP accustomed to the blanket on the floor, he will have a safe place to play for now, especially if I have to run to get something.  Although he loves his changing mat, it sits on the counter where he will soon be in danger.  He sometimes can almost roll over especially when flailing his arms.

The Swing

We tried the swing on three separate occasions before Baby CP stopped hating it.  He can now tolerate it quietly for about ten minutes if he is calm before being put into it.  We're still working on it...
